St. Michaels House Multi Sensory Stories second business Award 2015 KPMG and St Michael’s House have been shortlisted for the 2015 Allianz Business to Arts Awards in the Best Creative Staff Engagement category for Multi Sensory Stories. This is the second Award for this project: St Michael's House Multi Sensory Stories won the' Excellence in Community Volunteering Award' at the Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards 2013.The Multi sensory stories concept was developed by St. Michael’s House Home Teachers and funded by KPMG through the Fundraising Office in 2013.The Multi sensory stories was a  new initiative product stemming out of the need to improve the quality of story time of children in St. Michael’s House. Like all children they greatly enjoy a story for fantasy and enchantment. However, some of our profound intellectual disability children are more intrigued by a new type of story – a sensory story. This project ensures that ALL children with complex medical needs, severe and profound intellectual disabilities can benefit from children’s stories. The sensory story is a simple story of seven sentences. Each sentence carries a different sensory experience for the child. To bring it to life the story is accompanied by props to touch, taste, smell, hear and see. Some simple technology like touch buttons, for sound are included in the box.Home teachers Mairead Naughton and Maria Nolan are responsible for the 100 Multi sensory story boxes in circulation throughout our three regional libraries in Ballymun, Coolock and Goatstown.Awards will be announced on September 1st 2015. Barbara Wiseman, Head of Fundraising
