Ireland has cases of the CoronaVirus/ COVID-19 . It is a new virus.
Please remember- For the vast majority of people COVID-19 is a short lived illness which can cause: - High temperature, shortness of breath and cough as the most common symptoms from which people make a full recovery.
Currently there is 43 cases in the Republic of Ireland.
March 12th- update on What St. Michael's House are doing about the CoronaVirus/ COVID-19 ?
St. Michaels House steering committee are updating regularly on the CoronaVirus /COVID 19 arriving and spreading in Dublin. We are in contact hourly.
St. Michael's House are advised by the World Health Organisation, the European Centre for Disease
Control and the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.
- St. Michael's House are communicating with their staff teams regularly. We have issued staff flexibility and approaches to ensuring services are supported regarding nationwide school closures by the Department of Education today
- We are working closely with our 6 Special National Schools as Patron body
- We are continually informing staff on any HSE Virus updates, protocols and procedures
- We have Hand Hygiene stands/ signs and guidelines to all staff teams
- We have issued Information posters to all Units & Departments to learn from and display
- We have completed over 400+ Hand Hygiene refresher courses directly to staff and service users throughout our 170 Units to date.This is continual process.
- Our CEO has written out to all 1,938 Families on St. Michael's House working together to protect the services
- We are making contingency plans throughout the organisation for all our services including Day, Residential and Respite services
- We have actively limited - mass gatherings - in our services for non- essential groupings to 50 people
- We have some and are waiting on another delivery of protective clothing
- We have completed an Easy to Read Guide for the people who use our services . Poster 2

In the event of an outbreak in St. Michael's House we will advise next steps by a case by case basis.
