St Michael’s House Horizon Project was delighted to collaborate with Northside Partnership and J.P Morgan who developed “Financial Capabilities for All”.
This innovative toolkit is designed to support young adults, including young adults with disabilities and those at risk of financial exclusion, in developing essential financial skills.
“Through our work with St Michael's House Horizons which promotes independence and transition to independent living, we saw firsthand the challenges individuals face when managing their finances. We recognised the immense capacity for growth in this area. With the right resources people can take control of their finances and gain a new level of autonomy not just in the short term but throughout their lives”
Angela Shafer Community Education Coordinator Northside Partnership.
The toolkit was borne out of the Money Made Sense course that covers essential topics such as
- Where does my money come from?
- Recognising money and understanding your entitlements
- Staying safe online
- Budgeting your money
- Cash handling and mobile top-ups.

The initiative was officially launched on 25th September 2024 and was attended by Maeve Mulryan (Horizons Project Co-ordinator SMH) and young adults who attend our services.
To date, 25 adults who attend St Michael’s House Horizons Project and Community Support have enrolled in the six week Money Made Sense programme. The programme is delivered in small groups (one to three people) which provides a comfortable learning environment through interactive, visual boards and role-playing aids. During these hourly sessions, attendees are supported to identify their personal goals and pathway to achieving them.
