Dear Parent/Family Member/Carer,
As we approach the festive season, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Reflecting on the past year, we remain deeply committed to empowering individuals with disabilities and supporting their families / carers. While challenges persist, such as recruitment and significant financial challenges, I am heartened by your ongoing support and the dedication of the staff, whose unwavering commitment has ensured continuity of care and progress in our services.
Recruitment remains a central focus and, while we continue to experience a challenging market, we were also proud to be recognised among the top 150 employers by the Sunday Independent earlier this year which is a testament to the strong values and commitment that underpin the work of SMH.
In June, we had the opportunity to present to the Oireachtas Joint Committee for Disability Matters, where we highlighted the critical challenges facing the disability sector and advocated for enhanced supports and resources for individuals with disabilities and their families and carers. This was a significant moment which allowed us to highlight the challenges, and possible solutions, facing SMH and the sector nationally.
The recent general election brings new opportunities to advocate for meaningful change in the disability sector. We shared a manifesto prior to the general election with all candidates, service users and families / carers, and we are now actively engaging with the newly elected TD’s to ensure that the preferences and needs of individuals with disabilities and their families / carers remain a priority. This election has opened doors for further dialogue, and we are optimistic about the potential for positive change.
Looking to the future, we remain steadfast in our efforts to align with our Strategic Plan for 2022-2026. This plan provides a clear and ambitious roadmap for creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities.
As we close out 2024, I want to thank you for your continued partnership and trust. Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive community.
Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful Christmas and a joyful New Year.
May 2025 bring hope, happiness, and new opportunities for us all.
Warm regards,
Liz Reynolds | CEO St Michael's House
