SMH Horizons Project supports the pathway & skill-building to independent living.
A key aspect of skill-building for independent living is understanding fire risks and building fire prevention plans around abilities.
Teresa & Mary Louise from the SMH Horizons project recently met with Alan from McL Fire on his annual fire safety equipment service at the training apartment.
- Teresa & Mary Louise watched the SMH Fire Training Video (created & developed by SMH Fire Officer Isolde Veld for the Horizons training apartment) to refresh their knowledge on the apartment Fire Evacuation plan
- They practiced a fire drill evacuation by using the stairs, following the exit signs & going to their designated assembly point.
Knowing how to act if a fire does break out, and how to safely & quickly evacuate the area is an essential training module in Horizons training
