As part of the St. Michael’s House WorkAbility Programme, proudly co-funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Social Protection and the European Union, adults supported by St. Michael’s House had the unique opportunity to take part in a Work Shadow day with Aramex Ireland recently.
The WorkAbility Programme (2024–2028) is designed to support individuals aged 16+ to Prepare, Train and Gain meaningful employment in the community. #SMHChampions, Aramex, completed SMH Workability Disability Awareness Training in 2024. Last week, the Aramex team welcomed #TeamSMH to their facility for a full-day immersive experience.
A Warm Welcome and Day of Learning
Participants were warmly welcomed by Frank Kilbride (Director), Finola Murphy (Customer Relationship Manager), and the wider Aramex team. The day kicked off with a Meet and Greet, followed by:
An Introduction to Aramex and their operations
A guided site tour with Tadgh, Facilities Manager, exploring Aramex’s warehouses and learning how different items—such as medical supplies and food—are transported, as well as the role of quality control and sustainability initiatives like their use of solar panels
"A Day in the Life" Sessions
Participants gained first-hand insights from Aramex team members during their “Day in the Life” presentations:
Tadgh, Facilities Manager, shared his routine, including daily health & safety checks and audits
Ursula, Customer Account Manager, explained the logistics of transporting goods via sea, air, and road freight
Klodiana, from the Finance Department, gave an overview of how her team manages invoices, payments, and financial records
The feedback from our participants was overwhelmingly positive. Thank you to the Aramex team for the invitation and and for creating a genuinely inclusive and empowering experience for everyone involved and for being an incredible SMH WorkAbility partner. Opportunities like these make a real difference in supporting individuals to explore, experience, and thrive in employment.
